Still Kid _ Henry Fischer interview

While we were in Leeds, during a rare moment of silence, he came out with “When I was a kid…. mmm well, I’m still kid” causing everyone to burst into laughter. Henry is pure energy, wit, constant jokes and hilarious pranks that make every day of the tour fun; even in its down moments, he comes up with one of his gags, making people laugh and brightening everyone’s day. It’s interesting to see how his expression changes when he starts trying a trick, although he probably won’t stop talking and cracking jokes. During our stay in Spain, he planned spots, arranged accommodations for everyone, and cooked for the entire team. Something you don’t take for granted from a 16-year-old.

One of his great passions, which not everyone knows about, is drawing. During skate sessions you can sometimes see him sitting down, busy drawing on his sketchbook. He oversaw the entire art direction of the “Still Kid ‘zine, telling stories and taking care of the design with photos shot during two missions to Spain and Northern England to film with the team for the new NB Numeric video. Henry is creative, intelligent, and a beast on a skateboard. His family is completely involved in skateboarding and is doing an incredible job with Al Carrer Skateshop in Barcelona. Never loose your smile little Henry! DB.

The first trip for the “Still Kid” project was to Sicily in May 2024, this was your first trip ever with the rest of the Numeric squad, you were 14year old and flew alone from Barcelona. A lot of things happened since then.. how was and how is looking back at that mission now?

Sicily damn, that was a special one. Was the right place to meet the guys, we stayed in a big house with swimming pool, ping pong, bbq etc it was really nice. I remember being shy, latter on getting more comfortable. Ahhh yes we played a lot of bullshit, it was a dope trip!

How was filming for this video?

I would describe it as stories, stories that I will carry forever. The filming part I feel that is the one that you care the most while you’re traveling. But now, I realized that what you really remember are the experiences, that’s what you need to enjoy the most, because is the best part of the project.

“So we were in Girona at that wooden structure and he was skating it pretty easily, he did a 5-0 on the top of it within a couple try’s,. at that moment I remembered him doing a wall ride nosegrind in Madrid on something that was basically vertical, like no ramps just a wall.. So I asked him why don’t you try to do a nosegrind on the top of it and as soon as he gave it a first attempt we all knew it was going to happen”. (Andrew Verde).

“I think the first time I meet Henry was in Portugal, few years ago we were doing a trip in Lisbon and him and his dad Leandro joined us for a few days there. By then his board was almost bigger than him, haha basicly up his chest Even back then everyone would impressed how he’d manage himself on the board. And now he’s grown (a bit more) and being on trips together and seeing him do gnarly stuff is pretty awesome to be honest!” (Andrew Verde).

You went on almost all the missions, what was the one you’ll never forget and why?

Hard to say. All of them were so special. But I feel like the one in Sicily was the one. Everyone says that first time of something is the one that will be stuck to your head hahah and yeah it is. It was amazing, met almost all the guys, we ate so well and the villa was amazing, spots as well. In that trip I got to know Davide, we ended doing the ‘zine together.  So yeah was the shocking one!

What trick of your team mates you watched in person that impressed you the most?

Andrew’s ender was gnarly. Valencia, just in the morning, having breakfast watching him try and little by little getting closer, than he did it! I couldn’t realize it. Bruh so sick!

What trick of your part are you more happy of?

Bs 5-0 on the rail down the hill. That one I already tried it a few times before and ate shit hahah. This one is quite hard to skate, there are always cars parked at the spot. That day was quick and it felt great.

It was really fun, I don’t know if I’ve ever been on a skate trip with someone that young before and he’s definitely high energy most of the time, until he tires himself out and falls asleep haha. I guess I’m the smallest out of the ‘grown ups’ so maybe he thought he could try mess with me more, but we definitely clicked and he made the trip really funny with the random stuff he comes out with becoming instant quotes“. (Matlok Bennet Jones).

You have the opening section, did you know it?

Yes I knew it, on one of the trips Baines came and told me the idea. I was really surprised and it turned out great!

Two of the filming missions were outside Barcelona, we all stayed at your little house by the beach, how was having all the boys there, planning spots, cooking for everyone and taking care of the whole crew?

Hahahah the first time they came I was really nervous. My fam and I were trying our best to be all good, my mum prepared food and freeze it, I had all the spots prepared for each day. Second time was more mellow, just chill and it was amazing. I would say that those two trips were the most remarkable ones for sure.

You inspired the name of the project while we were in Leeds… ah ah… how it happened?

Random sesh in Leeds, I was talking, don’t remember about what, but I came out with: “When I was a kid, mmmmm well, I still kid…” everyone started laughing, and yeah that’s the story. Hahaha never thought that would be the name of the project. But I really like it.

You curated also the Still Kid ‘zine with Davide Biondani, how was working on this special project?

Working with Davide was a pleasure. He responded really quick for all my questions. Hahahah over that. The project is really important to me. I put a lot of effort; was my first time doing a ‘zine so, I learned everything from zero, from how to export in the best quality, from how to do a typography for the ‘zine and the titles of the video. The beginning was frustrating cause I didn’t have an app so I was trying to figure the best one. Later on I got used to it, and learned many things, I would like to do more ‘zines, they are so fun to do.

What did you expect before to start and then how was the workflow?

Yes, I thought it was way easier. At First I had plenty of ideas than I realized what will actually works. Workflow was great, I was trying to have all in the time date.

Kicker to bank ollie, with Henry’s artwork. Leeds UK, 2025.

There are a lot of things to pay attention to, technically and aesthetically, since once is printed, is printed ah ah.

Yeah plenty of details, I prepared quite a few version to get the one to really start with. Was doing that really naturally. I didn’t have a final Idea I was just creating and building the order. Crazy how meticulous my dad is, he always spotted the little mistakes hahah. Thanks dad!

What did you think the first time you had it in your hands? Everyone is super hyped about it. You did an amazing job!

Inside I cried when I saw it first time. I put a lot of commitment, energy and work in it, and when I saw the actual result on paper it was very emotional. First thing I thought as well was: “Damn! Davide knows! Such a great quality of paper and print” hahahah.

Where your passion for drawing comes from and what it gives to you?

Many people ask me that, I never know what to answer, I always say that it came naturally and I always liked to draw. But now I realized that it happened when my sister born, I was 7-8 and started to paint and draw everyday I felt in my own world doing my stuffs. I just liked it so much, I can’t describe it. I realized that because my brother is almost 4 and in those four years I saw the evolution of my sister in her drawings and paintings. When you have less attention, you push your best to stand out, and as I did, my sister is doing as well now.

“Henry’s family is lovely, every time we’ve been with them they’ve treated us very kindly. This last time went to get food all together we got to meet his mom, younger brother and sister, it was very nice day! They are a great loving kind and caring family! And of course Henry has inherited all those values.” (Andrew Verde).

The premiere in Barcelona was a very special special one, with all the crew there, the 10th anniversary of Al Carrer, your family and friends fully involved in it… very intense and emotional.

Something gets important and emotional when people sees your evolution and effort. In those 10 years of the shop all the community we made and the family we are building… I have no words. Both saw my process. They saw me as a lil’ kid and now as a mid kid hahah. The evolution is what makes it really emotional. This last year and half, I was traveling a lot, and they knew it and was always asking, how was it? When they saw the video, the ‘zine, the expo and the event, they weren’t expecting that. It hit different. I can’t be more grateful for the opportunity. Thanks NB#, much love fam 😉
