Still Kid _ Dee Collins interview

Dee has been with the NB Numeric squad since 2020. He’s originally from Derry, Northern Ireland, and he’s one of the best guys out there. He’s genuinely in love with skateboarding and you can see it in the motivation he puts when trying a trick. It’s always a pleasure to spend time on the road with him and I can’t wait for the next mission Dee!

Hi Dee, where do you live an how long have you been skating for NB Numeric?

I live in Derry City, Ireland and I got my first box from NB in December 2020, so coming up on 5 years now!

What was it like seeing the video for the first time?

The first time I seen the video was at the premiere in Barcelona, I felt like the video just flew by, but the trick selection and the spots really stood out to me, I really enjoyed it!

How was being part of this project that came right after the “Wake Up Massi” of 2024? It seemed you guys never stop filming right?

Yeah, as soon as the last video was done, we just went straight into the next one which I really like doing, because when I’m back home, there’s no real scene in my city or filmers or anything like that, so these New Balance trips are the only real time that I get to skate good spots and see all my friends again.

Funniest moment of the trips you went?

Oh man, there’s so many funny moments like between Dale and Baines bickering at each other or Henry bullying Davide and Matlok it’s so hard to pick just one, but every trip is always so fun!

It seems you guys are all very close, it’s a large group of people from different places but the mood of the squad it’s always chill and fun, it’s not given, especially when you spend many days on the road.

It feels like we’re a big family, everyone gets along with each other so well! It definitely is very chilled most of the time like instead of going out at night, I think we would all rather stay in the apartment, watch skate videos and play card games, I couldn’t ask for a better crew to be honest!

How was having Henry around and in the team?

I knew of Henry for a long time but I missed the Sicily trip so when I met him on the next NB trip he was fully settled in and was full of hype! It’s sick having him apart of the crew, watching him grow and progress every time we meet up over the years! I feel like he’s very mature for his age when it comes to his skating also, like his trick selection and how he plans out lines is very thought out! He’s always drawing when he’s not skating, I’m a big fan of his artwork it’s so sick the style he has on and off the board!

Do skaters complain too much sometimes? Ah ah.

I wouldn’t say any of our crew complain about skating, I think most of us know that we’re in an amazing position. I would say we worry because we care, we care about skating our best to produce the best possible footage for the project. I don’t think any of us want this to end anytime soon!

Favorite destination you went for this for this project?

I have a few for this project, when we went to Madrid this time it was for the “Intervals” premiere so it was a heavy crew with the Global team, Zurich was really sick also, it felt really productive and the most easygoing place, I don’t think we got kicked out of one spot the entire time. My favourite was definitely going to Henry’s wee holiday home in Girona; skated spots I’ve never seen before and the whole thing just felt really wholesome!

Can you tell a little story behind the fakie big spin you did in Sheffield that is in the ‘zine?

The fakie bigspin in Sheffield happened because we were trying to dodge the rain in Leeds that day. I’ve seen the spot on footage before but never in person so I’ve always wanted to skate it. When we got there I just asked Baines and Josh if fakie bigspin had been done there before but they said it free to do! It was a fun session because me, Drew and Fred were all trying tricks and I love skating stairs with those guys! When you showed me the photo of the fakie bigspin I was super happy with it, you really killed it Davide so thank you so much for that!

Favorite trick of the video?

There’s so many tricks that stood out but honestly, Drew’s ender is so crazy to me! I seen it in person too and it still blew my mind when I seen it in the video! He does everything so beautifully

What trick from your section are more happy of?

The trick I did on the drop down ledge at Congresso in Madrid, I’ve never done something like that before so I was really stoked on it!
