Sean Goff remembers this well: ”I think it was in ’84 that Derry Thompson convinced the UK Government to give some cash to subsidise a trip to go to the ‘World Championships’ at Huntington Beach. I believe he contacted the NSA to get them to call it that so he could apply for the grant! We traveled in two RV’s for two weeks hitting up spots. Del Mar, Uplands, Lance’s ramp, and Huntington Beach. Skateboarding was a much smaller family back then, and we were welcomed where ever we went. Riders skated in a slalom comp at Uplands and the street style comp at Huntington”.
